A Sumptuous Rollercoaster Ride!
:-(( ****One note on the Concert Variations (don't download them UNTIL emusic fixes them....I will change this review when I have received word they have fixed them). Ignore those who call this the \"English Rach. 2\". This contains all the lyricism and musical development we would expect from a composer much better heralded and regarded. If you like this (and you WILL) I encourage you to explore Stanford's symphonies. What is it about English composers who get such short shrift from the English public and its critics? I don't get it. Buck up you Brits and take credit for your musical heritage; it's a rich tapestry that is distinct, unique and musically brilliant and uplifting to the human spirit. Stanford's Piano Concerto No.2 receives an enthusiastic YES. (I've listened to this at least 20 times now....).
