OFF, First Four EPs (Bonus Version)
2010 | Label: Vice Music / The Orchard

A record made in hardcore heaven, OFF! combines the formidable talents of Keith Morris — singer for both Circle Jerks and pre-Rollins Black Flag — Redd Kross bassist Steven Shane McDonald, Dmitri Coates, frontman for underrated Philadelphia band Burning Brides and Mario Rubalcaba, drummer for both Rocket From the Crypt and Hot Snakes. The results are as thrilling as you might imagine, a bleeding-knuckle bar brawl punk record full of 90-second songs that scrape and shout and burn up in record time. The m.o. here is abbreviated brutality: hit hard, hit fast, move on to the next one. OFF is a welcome kick to the throat.

antidote

ruggrawk

A skull-splitting antidote to the overprocessed, too-finely manicured, ultra-produced shite that has become the norm in modern music. These lads are pros of the form and deliver some of the purest, most exciting punk rock my tired ears have heard in years. Thank you, boys!

Hardcore's Comeback Album?

ChainWax

OFF! shows that it can still sound as fresh and exciting as in 1980 - how great it would be if this kicked off a truly authentic revival of aggressive, underground American punk rock - the times are right for it. How has Keith Morris maintained his vocal quality all these years, the guy is in his mid-fifties - really amazing performance.

group sex part deux

manunderstress

nearly every bit as good and similar in songwriting, guitar tone and production values to Circle Jerks iconic debut 'group sex'

decline of western civilization part V

Suzuka

yeah I know they have the insecticide killer reference for their name, really kool pettibon art, some of the riffs may seem similiar (Darkness) and those mcdonald bass lines bring back great memories of Redd Kross. But they f**king rock to 11. This is as good as it gets. Penelope, get the film crew ready.

Woah

Chicago1

Got here from the Village People and boy, I sure wasn't disappointed. Won't be long before this band is getting everyone to stand up and sing between innings at Kansas City Royals games.

I like the samples that showcase the end of the song. That's classy!

Classic hardcore

SquidGal

Listed as commercial alternative, this is actually old-style hardcore punk. The band includes Keith Morris of Circle Jerks and Black Flag, Steven Shane of Redd Cross, Mario Rubalcaba 411/Hot Snakes and Dimitri Coats from Burning Brides. First Four EPs...ring a bell?

Video Q&A: OFF!’s Keith Morris on … Stealing Vegetable Oil

By Jayson Greene , International Editor

Go ahead, ask Keith Morris anything. Or better yet, don't bother: the hardcore legend -- formerly of Black Flag and the Circle Jerks, lately of the hardcore-revivalist upstarts OFF! -- will gladly sound off without the slightest provocation. Now in his mid-50s, Morris still boasts more backed-up spleen than a 15-year-old confined to Saturday-morning detention. "You wonder why I'm always screaming?" Morris yells on "Upside Down," off of OFF's First Four EPs.… more »
