Grouper, AIA: Alien Observer
2011 | Label: Yellowelectric / Iris

If you blinked, you missed the vinyl version (in runs of 1,000 copies) of Elizabeth Harris, aka Grouper’s, two self-released mini-albums from the spring. AIA: Alien Observer and AIA: Dream Loss are both solid additions to her catalogue of engaging, woozy dream-pop. But Alien Observer is not only the poppier and stronger of the two (prominently featuring Harris’s multi-tracked vocals), it’s possibly one of the best records of the year. In the event of emergency, this gorgeous, airy music can be used as a flotation device.

universe time

sounds of the infinite everything. I have always thought that the stars and galaxies moves at an enormously slow pace, in comparison to earth time. This music brings you closer to universe time. Great astral make-out music.

If I still smoked weed

If I still smoked weed, this would be the soundtrack of my high-minded affair. Outside, at night.

I wish I knew Icelandic or Inuit or one of those languages that has lots of words for the "in-between" things that are indescribable in English. This needs one of those.
