Paul listens to what's current (1980) and takes the plunge into "new wave." Timely, lively and fun, the album is remindful of XTC and even Oingo Boingo. Experimental, for McCartney, yet still accessible to fans as witnessed by "Coming Up's" chart success. I have to give McCartney credit for stretching on this release and embracing the "new "wave" unlike so many established artists of his generation. Good for him!
It took me year to appreciate Paul's "McCartney" album. I doubt I'll ever learn to like "McCartney II".
