After their Angel’s Trumpets and Devil’s Trombones release in 2005 and tour with noise gods Unsane, East L.A.’s 400 Blows went all but silent. There was a label switch and a drumseat rotation that brought in Circle Jerks’ Kevin Fitzgerald, but little in the way of new music. Now, after six long years, they’ve pulled the pin and are set to detonate. With Sickness and Health, the current and future state of affairs for all of us is very bleak, but few bands make anxiety, paranoia and hopelessness sound so damned good. Vocalist Skot Alexander will momentarily reassure you that we’re in this mess together, and you both may just get out, but you can’t shake the feeling he’ll cut the rope once he safely climbs out of the abyss ahead of you, sending you back into a dark, crazed freefall.
