Taking the piss or the real thing?
It would be easy to dismiss this EP as Peter Hook taking a shot at his old Joy Division/New Order mate--and now mortal enemy--Bernard Sumner. Except for one thing: Rowetta's amazing voice. Best known for her killer backup vocals on the Happy Mondays' best work, Rowetta's soulful, heartfelt singing here makes this old Ian Curtis gems shine. So is Hooky taking the piss out of Barney? Or is he thinking of The Light as a possible ongoing project? Maybe it's a bit of both, but either way it sounds great. (Just run for the exits if they start covering songs from 'Republic'.)
