The bubblegum punk sound of CCM.

  • We Say...

In the early '80s, the Altar Boys arrived at a wonderful recipe for good-time party punk, Christian style. Despite their solid knack for sing-along punk rock, the band was almost uniformly reviled by their fellow punk rockers due to their beliefs. And they supposedly scared away much of their intended audience with the sheer volume of their delivery. The lyrics are sublimely simple: “I’m into God and God is into me,” “Hey you/ Get into Jesus — tonight!,” “Hey little Susie Q/ Jesus died for you,” etc. True trailblazers of CCM, their bubblegum punk sound was part Dickies and part Del Fuegos; nothing trailblazing, but it’s definitely the soundtrack to a good party.
