  • They Say...

For this 16-minute, ten-song CD EP, the Lucky Dragons took samples of norteño music and ran them through a very early 21st century blender. Boxy mechanical beats, fluttering electronics, synthetic burps, and lo-fi static are all overlaid on the samples at various points. There are also bits where the samples loop or it sounds like your disc is skipping or stuttering electronically, in that distinctive noise that only defective CDs or CD players can make, though here the effect is wholly intentional. At times the norteño element drops out altogether, leaving only volleys of electronic noise and miscellaneous percussion to fill the space. It's not going to appeal to lovers of norteño music, of course, but the sonic manipulation is more random and distracting than it is inspired. Like all EPs in States Rights' Pregnancy Series, it's a limited edition of 700 copies.
