  • We Say...

Admittedly, this catches Tina near her artistic peak. But everything else about this late-'60s/early-'70s set belongs to then-husband Ike Turner, a transcendent electric guitar pioneer and savvy producer/arranger. This was a time when Ike and Tina were aiming their music at white fans even as they clung to their black Southern roots (which soon became less important). Her raspy voice and his fiery guitar made blues and R&B that felt like rock with raw nerve endings.
