  • They Say...

Based around the duo of Tom Carter and Christina Carter this Texas group self produced a string of excellent albums during the mid-'90s of hybrid folk psychedelia. Their intimate music at times recalls the fellow Texas recluse Jandek, as well as New Zealand lo-fi outfits such as the Cakekitchen and Alistair Galbraith. Candid guitar improvisations mixed with the beautiful vocals of Christina Carter create a mood of distinctive and edgy music and on Our Bed Is Green the group continue on the often maudlin themes of despair and longing. Avant-garde blues themes and drones dominate, though the instrumentation shares an equal role with the ambience of the recording environment in coloring their music. This fragile music is delivered in homespun fashion that calls to mind the work of Loren Mazzacane Conners as well as Edith Frost.
