I understand the that this is not the 10,000 Maniacs that everyone remembers. But come on, this isn't even the 10k Maniacs that most hardcore fans have even come to accept.(Mary Ramsey + the 3 remaining originals) The vocals are virtually unlistenable. Do yourself a favor and listen to the original recordings or catch the current incarnation live with Mary on vocals. This should be avoided.
This is the last incarnation of the Maniacs...featuring Oskar Saville on vocals. She has a very raspy voice compared to her predecessors....not bad...just not the Maniacs sound you expect. I always thought that the Maniacs should have started over with a new name and when Merchant left the band in 1993. It's a shame cause they are such great musicians that seem to be hanging on to their heyday when they should be writing fresh music under a new mantle instead of rehashing the past with a singer that doesn't really fit the classics.
