  • We Say...

Robert Forster was usually referred to as the Dark, Sarcastic One in the Go-Betweens, but his bandmate Grant McLennan was no slouch either -- he came up with the classic line "I know you've been seeing your boyfriend the actor/ Sometimes I want to run over him with a great big tractor" on his first post–Go-Betweens solo album, 1991's Watershed. Briskly melodic, the record is full of gorgeously arranged tunes -- indeed, the single "Haven't I Been a Fool" could have been an outtake from the Go-Betweens' essential 16 Lovers Lane. Sure, a few tracks sound as if McLennan is processing a breakup (albeit with a band instead of a woman), but Watershed is a full-fledged pop album, not a mere therapy session.
