  • They Say...

Out of Balance is a brilliant and spirited record, determined and compelling in the beautiful-noise traditions of Fairport Convention and Soundgarden. Dubbed a supernova in the adult alternative category, this Cincinnati-based group of highly accomplished musicians contributes confirmed elements of world culture, with as many whiffs of Native American percussion as straight-up Allman Brothers. Acumen avoids multiple-personality disorder in favor of sheer real-deal rock & roll range, with geysers of electric and rhythm guitar volleying between two fine vocalists, Cyndy Smyth and Dimitrious James. Far from being a stingy record, the title cut, "Gypsy" and "World Gone Mad" embrace a breadth of addictive and textured riffs that never intrude on the fine singing. The moving "Hawk" confirms Smyth's career wherever she goes. Socially conscious, ebullient, and musically precise, Out of Balance is a stand-out garage success.
