  • They Say...

The production may be way too slick, but on Autumn Sweet, D. Henry Fenton proves he knows his Americana. He'sJohn Mellencamp and Bruce Springsteen combined in one poppy, country-tinged singer/songwriter. Cuts like "Autumn Sweet" jangle along through the amber waves of grain with a rootsy momentum and nostalgic glaze. But Ryan Adams he is not -- D. Henry Fenton is better suited to fans of '70s Southern rock then to alternative country listeners. "I'm Not Ready For You" might have a great vibe, but in order to break out of the adult contemporary and bar band scenes, Fenton would do well to give some of his tunes a grittier, lo-fi treatment.
