Spectral Worship is one of those rare releases that take familiar, traditional aspects of pop and rock music and reorganize them in a way that's wholly new; the album is a frequently brilliant combination of acoustic guitars, assorted tone waves and other varied sounds, drawing them together into minimal but highly dynamic and well-constructed pieces in a beautifully rustic, desolate ballad style. Even when the band uses fuller, more traditional rock instrumentations, their inventive sense of organization shines through -- it's as if they're using abstraction and experimentation to come full circle back to pop music, and the results are indescribably excellent.
