  • We Say...

Collecting the traditional sounds of Kenya, this compilation is an excellent introduction to the rich musical history of the African nation. Opener "Angelike Twist" by John Amutabi Nzenze is playful and dainty with handclaps and curlicued guitars; the fiddle and clattering rhythm of William Ingoshi Mwoshi's "Medley" could easily sit alongside the Smithsonian's Anthology of American Folk Music; Habel Kifoto's "Chanronyi Ni Wasi" closes the distance between Kenya and Trinidad and Tobago with a bittersweet calypso number; and Clayton Omanga's "Nairobi" is very reminiscent of the American ballads of the early '60s. Sample the sounds of Kenya with this collection, and head here for more.
