They Say...
This trio from the Washington, D.C., area recorded In All Things Modulation over a 15-month duration. Essentially, the artists put this rather affable brew together amid their daily work schedules. Along with several guest vocalists and a sitarist, this outfit presents a contemporary EFX-laced production that emanates from the old-school ambient electronic arena, in concert with Chauncey Canfield's snazzy Fender Rhodes work. They implement jazz-based grooves, oscillating synth swashes, and breezy dreamscape-like vamps atop danceable rhythms and a series of loose grooves. Moreover, the musicians' keen penchant for instituting melodically memorable themes adds to the congeniality of this outing. The band meshes the sounds and vibes of the '70s synth movement with elements of techno, soul-funk, mainstream jazz, and much more. Nothing revolutionary to say the least, but an entertaining and rather multipurpose effort that strikes a harmonious chord, especially when viewed upon as a whole.
