  • They Say...

San Diego-based sextet Agua Dulce draws much of their influence from the Tijuana border region and its melting pot of American and Latin styles. Searching for Juana displays many rhythms, from Cuban son to Brazilian samba to Puerto Rican salsa, blended together in a rather tepid offering of westernized Latin sounds. Although the tunes are sung in Spanish and English, the group's soul remains firmly in California, as witnessed by the lightweight, good-time lyrics and rock undertones. No matter how hard they try, Agua Dulce can't help sounding like a cheap version of Santana.
