  • They Say...

Coming from a quasi-political and "feminist" viewpoint, Andrea Florian's album exudes confidence if not precise editing skills. While some of the songs appear slightly too wordy, there are several standout tracks aside from the melodic piano and vocal characteristics. "Counting the Stars" and "Peace of Mind" are trip-hop journeys in the way of Portishead, a form well suited for Florian's attractive and luring voice. Also engaging is the free-flowing jazz coda in "Indifferent," a standout departure from the record's melancholia. One obvious problem tends to be the slack from most songs, often moving over five and even six minutes. "Feminist" is the most pointed song within an otherwise musically intelligent but well-trodden pop-starved format.
