  • They Say...

In ways, the music performed by Ron Levy's Wild Kingdom is soul-jazz of the 21st century. A natural extension of its late '60s/early '70s predecessor, Levy's music utilizes up-to-date electronics, dense and funky rhythms, and a pretty original organ sound. The grooves and generally basic chord changes are similar to the 1970 variety and the music is danceable and quite accessible. The most fun moments are Karl Denson's explosive tenor solo on the opening "Organ Colossus" and the various sounds that come out of Levy's keyboards. This is easy music to digest, and colorful enough to hold one's interest even during the repetitive stretches.
