  • They Say...

If you took Revolver, Pet Sounds, the first Cheap Trick album, and all three studio albums by Iggy & The Stooges, threw 'em in a blender and set it on "grind," then you'd have a pretty good idea of what Kiss Me Screaming sounds like. Then there's what they're singing about, which is another matter entirely. Kiss Me Screaming is just a little bit different, and this is good. Fronted by former Map Of The World singer-songwriter-guitarist Khalid Hanifi, fueled by the aggressive and quirky lead guitar work of Brian Delaney and the musical stomp of drummer Donn Deniston and bassist Oni Werth, the music Kiss Me Screaming produces moves from melodic to atonal, sometimes shifting right in mid-song and back again. Putting no restraints on an album bursting with original material, their self-titled debut for Schoolkids' moves deftly from tender-tough acoustic based numbers ("I Wandered," a whimsical tale of heading to the local mall, gun in hand) to full bore electric assault tunes (the pop anthem for the 90s "Avalanche," "Doze," "Glowing In The Dark") that'll wake up the neighborhood big time. There's something here that's real, honest, and cutting edge without being a bunch of trendy posing that will instantly drew you into their web of sound.
