Review
by Amelia Raitt, eMusicElectro-pop has been left for dead more than once, but with the recent success of Goldfrapp in the United States, it seems like the time is ripe (again) for a resurgence. Robopop: The Return leads the charge with a varied collection of chancers (and Tiga) looking for that big break into the mainstream. Best bets? Try Matinee’s “Tokyo Girls,” which recalls the italo classic Crusin’ Gang’s “Chinatown,” Formatic’s “State of Play,” if you’re looking for the next Kylie, or maybe even Ping Pong Bitches’ “Rock Ya Body,” which piles on the guitars. But be sure to test out a few: this collection’s strength is in its showcasing of the numerous ways in which “Robopop” can be interpreted. Even if you don’t think you’re a fan, there’s probably something here that’ll strike your fancy.
