I had been looking for them since 1993

A friend gave me a tape of them back in France in 1990. No track titles, just the band's name. All my friends would love that tape too, but I lost it a long time ago, good thing they are available at emusic.

I love this stuff!

I'm surprised that no one ever bothered to review this album yet. Personally I love this album, and plan to explore more of this group's work. The first song on the album is amazing - I never thought I would get so carried away by an Albanian folk-song. Then again I would never have known the comedic charms of a Japanese country song about Soba noodles. If you're hungry for something different, give "Soup of the Century" a try!

They Say All Music Guide

When was the last time you heard country music sung in Japanese? Something that outlandish could only be attempted by the ever-adventurous 3 Mustaphas 3. Every bit as daring and fun as its predecessor, Soup of the Century finds the risk-taking Britons singing in languages ranging from Hindi to Spanish to Albanian and playing everything from Hawaiian guitar to Scottish/Celtic bagpipes to Greek bouzoukis. Middle Eastern music remains their foundation, and like before, these eccentric players don’t hesitate to draw on influences from all over the globe. “Soba Song” is essentially country music, but with mostly Japanese lyrics (and touches of Jewish klezmer thrown in), while “This City Is Very Exciting!” may be the only time Mexican ranchero music has been sung in Hindi. And on “Lipovacko Kolo,” the Mexican polka beat is united with both Celtic music and klezmer. – Alex Henderson
