Trigger Happy 2

How many rappers are there, exactly, in the Dipset crew? Every few weeks another one seems to emerge, each one a little bit more disgruntled than the one before. 40 Cal's second solo record doesn't stray too far from the crew's established template of hood narratives and hearty production, but that doesn't mean he's entirely disposable. Witness opening track "Do It Again," a series of tough, testifying verses laid over a single gorgeous soul sample. Or "Right or Wrong," which is lit up by darting brass and popcorn bass. Cal's voice is lean and eager, and when he latches on a string of syllables (as he does in the middle of "Overdose"), he's at his best. Trigger Happy 2 is a worthy course-holder until the next Dipset member arrives.
