  • We Say...

For a brief period in the late '90s, it seemed like Chicago &$8212; specifically the more youthful neighborhoods on the North Side — was surprisingly the only place that pop-punk, in its more underground varieties, could actually thrive. With bands like Blink-182 crossing over, the Alkaline Trio and their close friends the Lawrence Arms made rousing, sloppy albums like [i]Guided Tour of Chicago[i], filling them with buzzsaw guitars and just-rolled-out-of-bed howls. It was enough to make you forget what was actually on the radio.
