  • They Say...

A superior if underrated pianist, Armen Donelian is usually heard in small combos but performs 14 selections (all but two being his originals) on this early set as unaccompanied piano solos. Although superficially it sounds a bit similar to Keith Jarrett's solo outings, the performances are mostly pretty concise, Donelian sometimes hints at his Armenian heritage and his ideas are largely his own. Many moods are covered and the styles range from swinging to Western classical music and introspective explorations. This set rewards repeated listenings.
