The sound of steam from Salieri's ears.

  • We Say...

Perhaps no other modern film has been so thoroughly shaped by its soundtrack as director Peter Shaffer's 1984 Mozart biopic, Amadeus, featuring Tom Hulce and F. Murray Abraham. While the film repeated popular canards about the composer and his contemporaries — such as portraying fellow musician Antonio Salieri as a wily, envious and even sinister rival — the movie did superbly highlight Mozart's extraordinary body of work, thanks to crisp performances of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and conductor Neville Marriner.
