  • They Say...

A chill-inspiring album, kind of like Edward Gorey's Ghashlycrumb Tinies on acid. Experimental noise troupe Alva creates the kind of haunting sounds you might hear while camping in The Blair Witch's woods, interspersing dark chamber ensemble pieces with looping, terrifying moans and wails. While not for the timid, Slattery for Ungdom has moments of horrifying brilliance, particularly the loose, ambling instrumental pieces "Oon Ong" and "Charochta" that might be circus music for a Tod Browning film or parlor music for The House of Usher. Most appropriate near the end of October, Slattery for Ungdom is gothic music in the truest sense of the word.
