  • They Say...

In 1996, Amber became a major hit in clubs thanks to This Is Your Night's catchy title song. The thin-voiced Dutch singer (who's known for her quasi-scat singing) doesn't have a great range by any means, and this dance-pop collection isn't remarkable. But the generally decent CD does have its moments, including the European-sounding "Colour of Love" (which isn't unlike something 1980s dance duo Fun Fun would have done), the thumping, house-influenced "Push It to the Limit" and the intoxicating "Hold My Body Tight." On "Being With You," Amber shows that Smokey Robinson's 1981 hit can work fairly well in a dance-pop setting. Some of the songs are pretty forgettable, but when she has decent material to work with, Amber can be fun and infectious.
