  • They Say...

Uptown was one of the first independent jazz labels to come out with a multi-artist Christmas jazz collection. This enjoyable CD has performances by the Claudio Roditi-Don Sickler quintet, Frank Wess, Johnny Coles, Kenny Barron, Charlie Rouse, Richard Wyands, Maria Muldaur (who sings the lusty "Santa Baby"), Walter Davis Jr., Carl Fontana, Al Cohn, Barry Harris, Jack Sheldon, Sahib Shahib and Tommy Flanagan. The bop-based music has plenty of wit and solid swing, along with more variety than one might expect. Recommended.
