  • They Say...

Roy Nathanson and Anthony Coleman make an intriguing, thoroughly unpredictable, often delightful duo. This 14-song session, like the work of Nathanson's Jazz Passengers band, spans the gamut of improvisational possibilities. There are songs with extensive collective improvisations and lengthy free sections, and also the inspired lunacy of their wild, weird version of The Stylistics' "Stone In Love With You," which certainly isn't done in vintage fashion; neither do they perform "The Blues I Love To Sing" quite like Duke Ellington and Bubber Miley wrote it. Nathanson and Coleman's music keeps you on your toes. It doesn't always work, but it seldom falls flat on its face.
