  • They Say...

One of the groups that Antietam has been compared to is X. Though Antietam isn't a punk band per se, it's noir-ish, alternative pop/rock has been influenced by punk -- and Tara Key's lead vocals do have a somewhat Exene Cervenka-ish quality at times. Antietam has also been compared to artists ranging from the Motels to the Divinyls. But while none of those comparisons are without merit, Everywhere Outside underscores the fact that Antietam has an attractive and recognizable style of its own. This isn't the band's best album, but it's respectable nonetheless -- and melodic, thoughtful cuts like "Teleplay," "Monica," and "Sink or Swim" serve as satisfying examples of how appealing Antietam's sound is. Even though Everywhere Outside doesn't contain Antietam's most essential work, the CD gives a generally favorable impression of the band and is worth obtaining.
