These versatile Cajuns observe tradition, but with a rock & roll heart.

  • We Say...

Led by fiddler Michael Doucet, these progressive traditionalists carry the banner for modern Cajun music. They're equally at home on the Carnegie Hall stage or in a rural dancehall, as comfortable playing behind Richard Thompson as behind Canray Fontenot, equally adept at acoustic or electric. As exemplified by their nimble version of "Acadian Two-Step," this late-'80s album is a bit more traditional than more recent efforts, albeit with something of a rock & roll heart. But the title track is a zydecajun wild card, and "The Mosquito That Ate Up My Sweetheart in New Iberia Polka" defies analysis, except to say that it sounds about like what you'd expect from its title.

  • They Say...

It's the perfect blend of Cajun, zydeco, and rock & roll.
