  • They Say...

Pickin' on Lynyrd Skynyrd: A Tribute is a bluegrass tribute to everyone's favorite Southern party band, and playing bluegrass covers of Lynyrd Skynyrd tunes actually makes for a great crossover between bluegrass and rock. A few of the favorites are here -- "That Smell," "Sweet Home Alabama," and "Free Bird" (though "Simple Man" is sadly absent) -- as well as some lesser-known cuts that make for great covers. The amazing thing is that these bluegrass musicians play Skynyrd with a subtlety that makes for a moody, sometimes dark, sometimes completely uplifting collection. A tribute like this is not for everyone, but listeners who are fans of both bluegrass and Southern rock will find themselves duly impressed.
