  • They Say...

Reggae had a big year in 2003. Sean Paul had two huge single smashes, "Gimme the Light" and the number one "Get Busy," Wayne Wonder hit big with "No Letting Go," and Steven Lenky Marsden's Diwali rhythm was the beat of the year. Reggae Gold 2003 rounds up 16 of the biggest reggae hits of the first half of 2003. Sean Paul's monolithic "Get Busy" is the highlight, with a reggae-fied remix of Busta Rhymes' "Make It Clap" and a remix of Wayne Wonder's "No Letting Go," with LL Cool J and Dutchess, right on his heels. Hard-charging dancehall dominates the collection, with big names like Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, and Beenie Man all represented. Old-school reggae gets its foot in the door with Tanya Stephens' dubby "It's a Pity," Morgan Heritage's pop-reggae "She's Still Loving Me," and Sizzla's Marley-influenced "Thank U Mamma." Throw in hip-hop-influenced tracks by Shaggy ("Hey Sexy Lady") and Sasha (the grinding "Dat Sexy Body"), Morgan Heritage's pop-reggae cut "She's Still Loving Me," and the vocoder raga of T.O.K.'s "She's Hot," and you've got a pretty good picture of reggae in 2003. It's educational and fun, too! For maximum dancefloor pleasure, Reggae Gold 2003 comes with a bonus disc that features a continuous DJ mix by Black Chiney.
