Krankenhaus? EP

by

British Sea Power

  • We Say...

Noted bird enthusiasts British Sea Power went from spiky punk band to gleaming sonic juggernaut in the space of just one album (The Decline of British Sea Power to Open Season). But if the Krankenhaus? EP is any indication, the group liked their glossy selves enough to stay in one place long enough to explore the possibilities of life in Technicolor. Recorded with the help of Godspeed You Black Emperor's Efrim Menuck and ex-Arcade Fire skinsman Howard Bilerman, the group's sound is epic and expansive on "Down on the Ground" and suitably intimate on "Straight Down the Line." Meanwhile, on the lyrical front the group is still searching: "Atom" sees BSP's singer, Yan, looking down through a microscope at all the tiny molecules and realizing that, in the end, any answer that he's going to find is just going to lead to more questions. Kinda like life, eh?
