  • We Say...

I'm not quite sure how it happens, but Los Angeles' Project Blowed gets weirder and weirder each year. What started as an informal Gladiator School for the city's deftest rappers has, ten years later, evolved into a full-on legend rich with brilliant ups, tragic downs and miles of style. All the usual suspects are here for this all-over-the-place commemoration: old-timers Rifleman (a.k.a. Ellay Khule), Aceyalone, Abstract Rude and Volume 10 are here, right alongside disciples like Busdriver and Pigeon John. "Enter the Kaos" is a good place to start, a stalled synth and stuttering beats colliding with some of the strangest, most onomatopoeia-happy auctioneer flows you'll ever hear — you can't tell when sentences end, where beats fall and which words belong to which thoughts. Remember, the beat is just a suggestion, not a rule. (Just for reference: an earlier incarnation of the Black Eyed Peas were booed off the stage of a Project Blowed weekly.)
