Power pop and suburban angst have gone hand-in-hand ever since Big Star's "In The Street." What makes Canadian Invasion's tract on fear, loathing and tract housing any different? The Philadelphia band's 2009 album doesn't dwell on the adolescent ennui of John Hughes films but rather the lifelong affliction and delusion found in Sam Mendes'American Beauty. Three Cheers can be read as a deep thinkpiece, but it's better heard as a hook-for-hook slugfest with Fountains Of Wayne, a love letter to Teenage Fanclub or simply the best pure power-pop album in the last decade.
