  • They Say...

At midnight the dancefloor is packed, the body's sweaty, and music is blasting out of the sound system. And if it's Latin music moving the crowd, it must be the irresistible sound of salsa, although must of it with a distinctly Cuban twist. But whatever the style, be it northeastern Brazilian forro from Saldanha Rolim or Latin soul from Alex Wilson, the beats never stop, multi-layered and vibrant. This is music to move the feet, and closing with Rubén Rodríguez's "Soledad Macias" and Spainy & Trutty's Brazilian rapping on "Alpahaville E a Favela" is inspired sequencing, ending on a gorgeous high. The truth is that, with artists like Marcos Cunha and Elio Revé, Jr., there's not a misstep on this disc. Even if you're listening at home you'll be moving around the living room like tomorrow doesn't exist. As close to perfect as you'll find in a Latin dance compilation -- rootsy, melodic, and sparkling.
