  • They Say...

Albums like this one, which drape several different melodies and dancehall raps over the same rhythm, are both fascinating in their inventiveness and often repetitive to a fault. In this case, the rhythm was put together by co-producers Ingo Kleinhammer and Jamaican DJ Flava (Flava aka Kemar McGregor does all the mixing of the tracks here), and it's a bright-sounding and energetic pattern which Turbulence keeps airy for an interpretation called "There Is the Door" while dancehall veteran Luciano finds a deep, emotional well at its center for "More Love." Others here bring varying angles to the table, but by the time the unadorned rhythm itself makes its appearance as a last track instrumental, most listeners will probably have had their fill of it. There is such a thing as having too much of a good thing.
