Laid-back urban soul arrangements and unpretentious “round the way girl” vocals

  • We Say...

Though they didn’t break through to the mainstream until the late '70s with “Best of My Love” and “Boogie Wonderland” (their disco “duet” with Earth, Wind & Fire), this trio of sisters from Chicago was a regular presence on the R&B charts during the late '60s and early '70s with hits like “Stealin’ Love,” “Heart Association” and “From Toys to Boys.” This excellent collection of their Stax-era singles offers an appealing blend of laid-back urban soul arrangements and unpretentious “round the way girl” vocals — and works equally well as a musical accompaniment for a day at the beach or a night in the boudoir.

  • They Say...

A fine collection of The Emotions' greatest hits, Chronicle also includes several songs that weren't as popular but were nearly as good.
