  • We Say...

An all-killer, no-filler mix CD surveying the breadth and depth of the go-go scene
This mix CD by DJ Mike Sky captures the go-go sound of the '90s, providing a good overview of the development and breadth of the scene. On the first half, he mixes live recordings that showcase, on one end, Chuck Brown's bluesy take on "Family Affair" and, on the other, the near-mosh-pit intensity of Backyard's hip-hop inflected "Dat Weed" and "You Make the Call". The pocket in the Northeast Groovers' "Hey Ho" is so wide you can't get around it. In the second half, Sky comes up with lost tracks like Vinnie D's "$55 Motel" and Stinky Dink's "One Track Mind" that recall the story-raps of Slick Rick and Dana Dane. No filler here.
