Clifton Chenier is the acknowledged Little Richard of zydeco. He is the grand architect of the real, Creole French, pseudo-Caribbean blend of blues and R&B. This mid-priced sampler culls all its cuts from seven other Arhoolie releases. Chenier continually updated his sound, while retaining the royal title King of Zydeco. While condensing his nearly four-decade career into 15 cuts can scarcely do it justice, this is an excellent starting point. You should be able to identify the periods of Chenier's career that merit further investigation. Or, you have an excellent po-boy party disc that has something to satisfy every zydeco opinion.
