  • We Say...

Electronic music is pretty much a boy's club, as far as producing and DJing goes. Pity, then, anyone who chooses to question Colette's bona fides: she learned how to spin from none other than Derrick Carter and Mark Farina — legends of Chicago house. The patented improvised vocals, though? That's something she came up all by herself. Both elements come into play on her newest disc, Push, which sees her classically-trained vocals floating atop funky house. The freestyle-leaning "Get You Over" is an early highlight, while the hard-hitting "Tonight" puts a little bit of acid into the jackin' house template. For a prototypical Collete track, though, go straight to "If," which may just be the catchiest slice of pop house since Kylie's "Can't Get You Out of My Head."
