Aside from the fact that this "celebration of English traditional music" is full of splendid music, it fills a longstanding lack: a brief introduction to a wide range of material. Most of it is by singers from all over the country, because when "folk music" was people music, it was indeed largely vocal. But there are also splendid instrumentals: Northumbrian pipes, accordion (William Kimber!) and more.
