They Say...
A combination of early D.O.A. singles, an EP, and the 1985 Let's Wreck the Party full-length, The Dawning of a New Error is a nice early-career encapsulation for the first and perhaps foremost Canadian punk rock outfit. Originally released on Alternative Tentacles in 1985, this late-'70s/early-'80s retrospective captures the band in all its faux British accent, first wave of (Canadian) punk glory. The "Disco Sucks" material is utterly charming with its homespun production and obvious Sex Pistols influence. The remaining 29 (that's a total of 33) songs generally follow suit, charting the gradual evolution of D.O.A. Highlights include all the "Disco Sucks" tracks and "Race Riot," of which two versions are included. While the slicker production of the Let's Wreck the Party cuts does add an interesting sheen to the group's material, pop efforts like "Shout Out" are not enhanced by the studio sizzle. A great buy for hoarders of early D.O.A. material, The Dawning of a New Error is a good way to become familiar with the seminal '80s punkers.
