Elegant readings of various Piazzolla tango classics.

  • We Say...

A long-popular saying, "In Argentina, everything may change — except the tango," began to fade after composer and bandoneónist Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) revolutionized his country's best known export, replacing corn with elements of modern classical music and jazz to create nueva tango ("new tango"), a juicy hybrid equally appropriate for dance floor, concert hall and the path from living room to bedroom. Aided by bassist James Vaughn, pianist Richard Boyell and master accordionist Robert Davine, the Da Vinci Quartet smolders with great elegance through this luminously nueva collection of all-purpose aural aphrodisiacs by the maestro and a few of his musical forebears.
