  • They Say...

Shanachie contributed to the Gregory Isaacs record glut with this 12-track disc pairing the erstwhile "Cool Ruler" with a variety of toasters on dancehall tunes. But these weren't simply "slack" or vulgar numbers; the remix of "Downpressor," as well as "Wailing Rudie," "Wanted," and "Jailhouse" packed some lyrical punch, while "Heartical Don" and "In My Nest" were nicely produced and strongly sung. The guest toaster roster included Nardo Ranks, Ninjaman, Major Damage, Bounty Hunter and General TK. While nothing here leaped out, there was plenty that didn't wilt after a second or third listen.
