They Say...
Recorded originally in December of 1985 and released in cassette form by Daniel Johnston (who reportedly gave them away to cute girls that he met at his job at McDonald's), Continued Story is a raw, home-recorded-sounding record that will chiefly be of interest to true Daniel Johnston fans. It has plenty of the noisy, nonsensical recording sounds and glitches that mark all of Johnston's early efforts. Many of the songs don't amount to much of anything, while there are also tunes that are among his most popular, like "Caspar" and "Ain't No Woman Gonna Make a George Jones Outta Me" -- though the recordings of these tunes on Continued Story are really not so great. However, Johnston's cover of the Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing There" is a beautiful thing, accompanied only by a couple of keys on the piano. Johnston has covered numerous Beatles tunes and this is one of his best. On several of these tunes he's also accompanied by an acoustic guitarist or a band, and some of these numbers, like "Etiquette" or "Dem Blues," are pretty clever.
