Tadzhikistan is a former republic of the USSR which sits between Afghanistan, China, Kirghizie, and Ouzbekistan. The Tadzhik language is of Persian origin. They were successively dominated by the Turks, Seljukides, Mongols Timurides Turks, and at the end of the 19th century the Russians, all of which influenced their music, yet they manage to maintain and preserve a rich and diverse culture. Davlatmand Kholov is one of the most acclaimed Tadzhik singers and musicians. He is a keeper of traditional Tadzhik music, performing most of the different styles of art and rural music of his country. He even revived a style of singing that had almost disappeared, by creating a new one out of what was left. This is quite a discovery.
